I Like Driving in my Car

Hello, my name is David. Welcome to my blog. There is nothing I like more than hitting the open road and going for a drive in my car. I have always loved everything to do with automobiles. When I was a boy, I had a collection of 208 different toy cars which I would play with all day long. As soon as I was old enough, I began taking driving lessons and the day I passed was the best day of my life. Although I am not a mechanic, my dad taught me lots of neat tricks so I can keep my car in top condition. I hope you enjoy my blog.

The Importance of Your Vehicle's Automatic Transmission Fluid

Automotive Blog

The transmission is perhaps the most important part of your vehicle, as it makes sure that the power from the engine is transferred to the wheels and that it's properly distributed among them. Most transmission problems can't be felt or heard -- no weird sound will come from your engine. Because of that, people aren't really able to address transmission issues, which, in turn, will lead to transmission failure. To prevent that, you should regularly check the transmission fluid and make sure it's in working condition. Here's some benefits, if you're still not convinced.

You will prevent transmission lock-up.

By not changing the transmission fluid, the filters, or the vehicle's oil for extended periods of time, you run the risk of your transmission system locking up, preventing you from switching into any gear and ultimately from driving your vehicle. One of the main uses of transmission fluid is to act as a coolant for the transmission. Old transmission fluid won't be as effective in cooling down the system, causing it to overheat and the car to shut down completely. If you reach this point, it's recommended to visit a licensed mechanic in order to get the vehicle up and running again.

You will save money!

Wouldn't you like to prevent having to spend hundreds of dollars on replacing your transmission system? Generally, transmission fluid is green or red, in order to distinguish it from motor oil. If you notice that it has turned black, it's time to replace it. Failure to do so will cause small but steady damage to your transmission, up until the point where you'll need to visit a mechanic.

Do NOT flush the fluid because you've heard you can save money that way. This technique would be similar to bleeding your body dry and pumping the blood back in – not such a good idea. Talk to a qualified automatic transmission repair person to learn about the proper technique to replace your transmission fluid.

You will get better fuel efficiency

The less your transmission has to work in order to deliver the power from your engine to the wheels, the less wear it will produce on your car's engine and on the transmission system itself. Transmission fluid doesn't only act as a coolant but also as a lubricant. Old transmission fluid tends to lose its abilities. This means that your transmission will have to work harder to deliver the power produced by your engine, which translates into unneeded fuel consumption.
