I Like Driving in my Car

Hello, my name is David. Welcome to my blog. There is nothing I like more than hitting the open road and going for a drive in my car. I have always loved everything to do with automobiles. When I was a boy, I had a collection of 208 different toy cars which I would play with all day long. As soon as I was old enough, I began taking driving lessons and the day I passed was the best day of my life. Although I am not a mechanic, my dad taught me lots of neat tricks so I can keep my car in top condition. I hope you enjoy my blog.

Signs That Your Vehicle Requires Diff Repairs

Automotive Blog

A vehicle's differential functions to transmit torque. In addition to this, the differential is responsible for allowing the vehicle's wheels to rotate at varying speeds. This variation in rotation enhances the vehicle's traction on the road while also keeping it stable when maneuvering corners. As such, the differential is an essential component when it comes to controlling your vehicle. However, some motorists do not know how to recognize the signs that their vehicle requires diff repairs. Instead, they leave some of the signs unchecked, which can lead to bigger problems with your vehicle. Here are some of the signs that you should be wary of that could indicate your vehicle requires diff repairs.

Your vehicle emits a rattling sound

When you attempt to put your vehicle into drive and hear a rattling sound, chances are there is a problem with the differential. This rattling originates from the drive shaft's joints. The joints of the drive shaft connect the vehicle's transmission to the differential. When the joints are worn, putting your vehicle into drive makes the differential work harder, which results in the wearing down of the gears. Leaving this sound to go on undeterred could lead to damage to not just your differential, but your vehicle's gears too.

Your vehicle emits a humming sound

When you are accelerating your vehicle, the car is supposed to pick up speed inaudibly if you begin to hear a humming sound whenever you are trying to speed up, then this could indicate a problem with your vehicle's differential. This humming sound will typically come about if the gears located at the differential have gradually become stripped. This wear and tear causes the gears to move awkwardly when they are spinning the driveshaft, hence creating the humming sound. You may also notice this humming when you try to brake suddenly. It would be best to have an auto mechanic assess the damage or you could end up having to replace the gears in the differential.

Your vehicle is experiencing vibrations

If you are driving your vehicle, typically at high speeds, and begin to experience vibrations in your vehicle, chances are the differential requires some repairs. Your car's differential as well as the joints connected to it come with seals. These seals require regular lubrication for them to work at optimum. Insufficient lubrication causes the joints to rub against the differential, which produces vibrations that travel up the drive shaft and into the vehicle. If caught early, lubricating the seals of the joints and the differential may solve the problem. Left unchecked, these seals may eventually crack leading to costly diff repairs
