I Like Driving in my Car

Hello, my name is David. Welcome to my blog. There is nothing I like more than hitting the open road and going for a drive in my car. I have always loved everything to do with automobiles. When I was a boy, I had a collection of 208 different toy cars which I would play with all day long. As soon as I was old enough, I began taking driving lessons and the day I passed was the best day of my life. Although I am not a mechanic, my dad taught me lots of neat tricks so I can keep my car in top condition. I hope you enjoy my blog.

Common Car Issues That Require Repairs

Automotive Blog

The engine light has come on in your car and immediately dollar signs begin to flash in your head. This typically happens to many car owners who begin to experience issues with their vehicle. You're worried about how much it could be or if you can keep driving and pay it no mind. The most important thing to do in this situation is for you to take it to a shop and have your car looked at by a professional.

Most cars will show warning signs that they need servicing. Here are four common issues that can be avoided simply with regular maintenance checks at a place like Wollongong Auto Electrics:

Faulty Spark Plugs

Failing spark plugs can cause a world of trouble for car owners who aren't able to quickly diagnose the problem. Your spark plugs are responsible for igniting the engine cylinders. When they are not properly working, you will notice that you're getting less gas mileage. If you're not able to diagnose the issue quickly, you may end up paying hundreds of dollars in repairs to replace your catalytic converter, which controls your car's emission system. The catalytic converter typically only breaks after a long period where your spark plugs are not properly working.

Completely Blown Motor

A blown motor is often the result of high mileage, leaking oil, a damaged valve, or a broken rod. Car owners can expect to spend a hefty amount to replace their engine due to the price of parts and also the extensive labour costs that comes with this issue. You could easily be looking at thousands of dollars for the repair and if you have an older car with high mileage, expect to find yourself right back in the shop if you haven't replaced any other major parts in the past few years.

Not the Transmission

That's right. How often have you heard of a friend's transmission failing them? It's one of the most common issues that car owners run into and it's often due to a lack of maintenance to the car. Transmission fluid isn't like your oil, it only needs to be changed once every two years. So often what happens, is the car owner forgets to change the fluid, it overheats and leads to the transmission failing over time. Like an engine replacement, transmissions can cost thousands of dollars.

Broken Air Conditioning

An air conditioner malfunction can be a headache and it often happens when the compressor is not properly performing or is broken entirely. This can be a result of a broken rod or even a broken engine belt, which leads to your compressor not working. When your compressor is malfunctioning, your car will not detect and hence differentiate high and low pressure, which is what freon uses to cool your car. A new compressor typically costs a few hundred dollars to order and install.
